Musical Devo - Fernando Ortega - Just As I Am

Let's pray over these words today. Lord, you shed your blood for me not because of who I am but only because of who you are. Thank you Lord Jesus for your unconditional love. Help me become unashamed of my past choices - so that I may never walk in that darkness again. Amen.

Fernando Ortega - Just As I Am

I waited and waited for God
He turned and He heard me
He lifted me out of the mud
His Own Hands They cured me
The Lord is my help
I will not be confounded
So I have focused my face like a flint
I'll not be ashamed
Lord I come

CHORUS:
Just as I am
Without one plea
But that Your blood
Was shed for me.

Take the days that remain in my life
Lord let me serve You
While there is breath on my lips
I would proclaim You
I long for Your return
I long to see You face to face
I long to join the eternal song
Communion of all the saints
Lord I come

Want to know what an addiction really is?

Thinking you are not sure if you have an addiction? I mean I am not an alcoholic or I don't watch pornography so what I'm doing could not possibly be an addiction. Well read on! Please pay special attention to the part in bold.

"Clear The Stage" by Jimmy Needham

Clear the stage and set the sound and lights ablaze
If that's the measure you must take to crush the idols
Jerk the pews & all the decorations, too
Until the congregations few, then have revival
Tell your friends that this is where the party ends
Until you're broken for your sins, you can't be social
Then seek the lord & wait for what he has in store
And know that great is your reward so just be hopeful

'cause you can sing all you want to
Yes, you can sing all you want to
You can sing all you want to
And still get it wrong; worship is more than a song

Take a break from all the plans that you have made
And sit at home alone and wait for god to whisper
Beg him please to open up his mouth and speak
And pray for real upon your knees until they blister
Shine the light on every corner of your life
Until the pride and lust and lies are in the open
Then read the word and put to test the things you've heard
Until your heart and soul are stirred and rocked and broken

We must not worship something that's not even worth it
Clear the stage, make some space for the one who deserves it

Any thing I put, before my God, is an idol
Any thing I want, with all my heart, is an idol
Any thing I can't, stop thinking of, is an idol
Any thing that I, give all my love, is an idol

'cause I can sing all I want to
Yes, I can sing all I want to
I can sing all I want to
And still get it wrong
And you can sing all you want to
Yes, you can, you can sing all you want to
You can sing all you want to
And still get it wrong; worship is more than a song
Worship is more than a song
Worship is more than a song

Clear the stage and set the sound and lights ablaze
If that's the measure you must take to crush the idols

Musical Devo - Mandisa's Overcomer

Today's song Overcomer is an amazing song. My son suggested I used it because he listens to it every day and LOVES this song. I wanted to make sure he understood the meaning behind the song so I asked him one day what do you think it means - and he simply said - "I've overcome hard things."  Well, that's just about it.

Hope you enjoy it!  Great tune to listen to early in the morning to get the day started right.

"Overcomer"by Mandisa

Staring at a stop sign
Watching people drive by
T Mac on the radio
Got so much on your mind
Nothing's really going right
Looking for a ray of hope

Whatever it is you may be going through
I know He's not gonna let it get the best of you

You're an overcomer
Stay in the fight ‘til the final round
You're not going under
‘Cause God is holding you right now
You might be down for a moment
Feeling like it's hopeless
That's when He reminds You
That you're an overcomer
You're an overcomer

Everybody's been down
Hit the bottom, hit the ground
Oh, you're not alone
Just take a breath, don't forget
Hang on to His promises
He wants You to know

The same Man, the Great I am
The one who overcame death
Is living inside of You
So just hold tight, fix your eyes
On the one who holds your life
There's nothing He can't do
He's telling You

Musical Devos ~ Dave Barnes' God Gave Me You

Dave Barnes ~ God Gave Me You

I've been a walking heartache
I've made a mess of me
The person that I've been lately
Ain't who I wanna be

But you stay here right beside me
Watch as the storm goes through
And I need you

God gave me you for the ups and downs
God gave me you for the days of doubt
For when I think I've lost my way
There are no words here left to say, it's true
God gave me you

There's more here than what were seeing
A divine conspiracy
That you, an angel lovely
Could somehow fall for me
You'll always be love's great martyr
Ill be the flattered fool
and I need you

God gave me you for the ups and downs
God gave me you for the days of doubt
For when I think I've lost my way
There are no words here left to say, it's true
God gave me you

On my own I'm only
Half of what I could be
I can't do without you
We are stitched together
And what love has tethered
I pray we never undo

God gave me you for the ups and downs
God gave me you for the days of doubt
God gave me you for the ups and downs
God gave me you for the days of doubt
For when I think I've lost my way
There are no words here left to say, it's true
God gave me you, gave me you.
Gave me you.

Musical Devo - Sanctus Real's We Will Never Give Up

"We Will Never Give Up" by Sanctus Real

We will not lose heart
We will not lose hope
When all we see is fading
We trust in what we know
We will never give up

Pressed on every side
Praying for escape
We can see the answer
That You're the only way
We will never give up

We will fix our eyes on the One who will last forever
We will hold on tight to the only real treasure
We will not lose heart
We will not lose hope
We will give our lives to the One who will last forever

We were born into weakness
Fragile by design
So we hold onto Jesus
With everything inside
We will never give up

We will fix our eyes on the One who will last forever
We will hold on tight to the only real treasure
We will not lose heart
We will not lose hope
We will give our lives to the One who will last forever

Greater is the One in us
We will never give up
Power of the Risen Son
We will never give up
We will never give up

We will fix our eyes on the One who will last forever
We will hold on tight to the only real treasure
We will not lose heart
We will not lose hope
We will give our lives to the One who will last forever

We will not lose heart
We will not lose hope
We will give our lives to the One who will last forever
Forever

Musical Devos ~ Steve Siler's Somebody's Daughter

SOMEBODY’S DAUGHTER
Words & Music by John Mandeville & Steve Silermmy and daddy cried
Taken by the wonder of life
SOMEBODY'S DAUGHTER
Words & Music by John Mandeville & Steve Siler

The moment she was born
Her mommy and daddy cried
Taken by the wonder of life
From Barbie dolls to ballet shoes
From roller skates to lipstick and rouge
She's become a lady overnight
Why do I see only flesh and look right past her heart
I try to tell myself I can't help what I feel - then I remember

She's somebody's daughter
Somebody's child
Somebody's pride and joy
Somebody loves her for who she is inside
She has a mother and father
She's somebody's daughter

You knit her together
Your cherished creation
Made her body a temple for the soul
Why can't I appreciate
The beauty that your hands have made
And maintain my self control
'Cause when I see only flesh you're looking
at her heart
There is so much more to her than meets the eye -
I need to remember

CHORUS
Heaven's own precious child
A person full of worth and dignity
When her beauty is defiled
I demean us both and fail to see

She's somebody's daughter
Somebody's child
Somebody's pride and joy
Somebody loves her for who she is inside
She has a mother and father
She's somebody's daughter
She has a heavenly father
She's somebody's daughter
From Barbie dolls to ballet shoes

Musical Devotional ~ Matt Redman's 10,000 Reasons

Matt Redman - Ten Thousand Reasons (10,000 Reasons) (Bless the Lord), New Album - 10,000 reasons, Year: 2011

Bless the Lord, O my soul
O my soul
Worship His holy name
Sing like never before
O my soul
I'll worship Your holy name

The sun comes up, it's a new day dawning
It's time to sing Your song again
Whatever may pass, and whatever lies before me
Let me be singing when the evening comes

Bless the Lord, O my soul
O my soul
Worship His holy name
Sing like never before
O my soul
I'll worship Your holy name

You're rich in love, and You're slow to anger
Your name is great, and Your heart is kind
For all Your goodness I will keep on singing
Ten thousand reasons for my heart to find

Bless the Lord, O my soul
O my soul
Worship His holy name
Sing like never before
O my soul
I'll worship Your holy name

And on that day when my strength is failing
The end draws near and my time has come
Still my soul will sing Your praise unending
Ten thousand years and then forevermore

Bless the Lord, O my soul
O my soul
Worship His holy name
Sing like never before
O my soul
I'll worship Your holy name

Jesus, I'll worship Your holy name
Lord, I'll worship Your holy name

Sing like never before
O my soul
I'll worship Your holy name
Jesus, I'll worship Your holy name
I'll worship Your holy name

Musical Devotionals - "A Thousand Little Things" - By Point of Grace

In finishing up the theme of depression from last week, I briefly mentioned about reflecting on being grateful for the things in our lives..I thought this song is a nice fit..and it's upbeat and catchy too!  Enjoy!
"A Thousand Little Things" - By Point of Grace

Here's a thousand little things
A thousand little things,
I'm hearing I love you
In a thousand little things!

The stillness of the morning,
No one else awake
Leaves of fire are falling
Whispering autumn is on the way

Steal some time and say a prayer for
All that lies in store
My life is overflowing
Ever dawn I'm thankful for

A Thousand little things
A thousand little things
Moments of your mercy
That every new day brings.
Sky goes form black to blue
And I'm silenced by the view
I'm hearing I love you,
I a thousand little things!
Oh, oh, oh

A dozen purple flowers
I brought home yesterday
The music and the laughter of children as they play
Friends who really love me
And walk with me through this life
The one I love says I choose you
Again to be my wife

A thousand little things
A thousand little things
Moments of your mercy
Every new day brings.
A quiet porch, a sunset view
A lazy rainy afternoon
A day with nothing much to do
I'm filled with gratitude
For a thousand little things (a thousand little things)
A thousand little things
I'm hearing I love you
And a thousand little things!
There's a thousand little things
There's a thousand little things
Saying he loves me!

Musical Devotional - Matthew West's "Forgiveness"

the story behind Forgiveness - so powerful!!!

"Forgiveness"by Matthew West

It’s the hardest thing to give away
And the last thing on your mind today
It always goes to those that don’t deserve

It’s the opposite of how you feel
When the pain they caused is just too real
It takes everything you have just to say the word…

Forgiveness
Forgiveness

It flies in the face of all your pride
It moves away the mad inside
It’s always anger’s own worst enemy
Even when the jury and the judge
Say you gotta right to hold a grudge
It’s the whisper in your ear saying ‘Set It Free’

Forgiveness, Forgiveness
Forgiveness, Forgiveness

Show me how to love the unlovable
Show me how to reach the unreachable
Help me now to do the impossible

Forgiveness, Forgiveness

Help me now to do the impossible
Forgiveness

It’ll clear the bitterness away
It can even set a prisoner free
There is no end to what it’s power can do
So, let it go and be amazed
By what you see through eyes of grace
The prisoner that it really frees is you

Forgiveness, Forgiveness
Forgiveness, Forgiveness

Show me how to love the unlovable
Show me how to reach the unreachable
Help me now to do the impossible
Forgiveness

I want to finally set it free
So show me how to see what Your mercy sees
Help me now to give what You gave to me
Forgiveness, Forgiveness

Musical Devotionals - Hillsong's I Surrender

"I Surrender" - Hillsong

Here I am
Down on my knees again
Surrendering all
Surrendering all

Find me here
Lord as You draw me near
Desperate for You
Desperate for You

I surrender

Drench my soul
As mercy and grace unfold
I hunger and thirst
I hunger and thirst

With arms stretched wide
I know You hear my cry
Speak to me now
Speak to me now

I surrender
I surrender
I wanna know You more
I wanna know You more
[x2]

Like a rushing wind
Jesus breathe within
Lord have Your way
Lord have Your way in me

Like a mighty storm
Stir within my soul
Lord have Your way
Lord have Your way in me

Like a rushing wind
Jesus breathe within
Lord have Your way
Lord have Your way in me

Like a mighty storm
Stir within my soul
Lord have Your way
Lord have Your way in me

Like a rushing wind

The Isaacs - He Ain't never Done Me Nothin' but Good ~ Musical Devotionals

on Musical Monday's I like to present all sorts of music that praises God and has a great message. A few weeks a go I presented rap - something many people might not first think to listen to..well, today is bluegrass. It's a great song and very upbeat. Have a great day!

the Isaacs ~ He Ain't Never Done Me Nothing But Good
CHORUS

He ain't never done me nothin'

Done me nothin' but good

Nothin' but good

Ooo, ooo ooo,
He ain't never done me nothin'
Done me nothin' but good,
Nothin' but good.

VERSE 1
Job was a righteous man, the devil couldn't doubt it.
He surely loved the Saviour, there was no doubt about
it.
But satan cursed his body from his feet to his head;
Told him all his children and his cattle we dead.
Job's wife said, "Why don't you curse your God and
die?"
But Job said, "Woman, you're speakin' like a foolish
child".

CHORUS

VERSE 2
I gave my heart to Jesus and I took Him as my Saviour.
I cast my lots with the chosen ones and I started out
for Heaven.
Soon I was forsaken and my friends left one by one;
But the good Lord walked beside me and He never left me
alone.
He fed me when I was hungry,
He cheered me when I was sad.
He has been the dearest friend this child has ever had.

CHORUS

VERSE 3
History tells of Polycarp a martyr for the gospel's
sake.
They built a fire around him and they tied him to a
stake.
But the fire could not comsume him,
So they pierced him with a sword.
The fire went out, the blood ran down,
But still he praised the Lord.
All my years I've served Him, He ain't done me nothin'
but good.
Well, I won't repent and I won't recant,
Just tell me why I should.

CHORUS

Musical Devo~ Jonah33 Faith Like That

"Faith Like That" by Jonah 33
I have read about the days of old
About the men who followed You
And how they saw the supernatural
And became the chosen few

So I come before You now
Tearing off my earthly crowns
For this one thing I have found

[CHORUS:]
I want a faith like that
To see the dead rise or to see You pass by, oh, I
I want a faith like that
Whatever the cost, I'll suffer the loss, oh, I
I want a faith like that

I'm not looking for a miracle
Signs and wonders or things thereof

I caught a glimpse of what You want for me
And what I have is not enough

I read the story one more time
Of those who gave to You their lives
With no fear or compromise

[CHORUS]

I want a faith that can move any mountain
And send them to the seas
I want a faith that can break every stronghold
That keeps You, that keeps from me

And I want a faith like that
To see the dead rise or to see You pass by, oh, I

[CHORUS]

I want a faith like that
A faith like that

Musical Devotionals ~ I Won't Run Away by Ashes Remain

"I Won't Run Away" ~ by Ashes Remain
I don’t wanna fall and throw it all away
I don’t wanna burn through another day
I’ve been searching for a better way
And I’ll keep fighting until it’s over

[CHORUS:]
I’m not running away
when everything is falling down around me
Take me to the place I found You
I’m so lost without You
I’ll be here as long as it takes
I won’t run away

I don’t wanna fade and drift away
I don’t wanna drown underneath the weight
I can feel You
everytime I break
And I’m still fighting
cause it’s not over

[CHORUS]

This world’s so lonely
You’re my only
hope to break away

[CHORUS]

Musical Mondays - Press On

Here is a different type of genre of music. Rap! In fact, I'm using this song for  an event I'm photographing as their theme is Phil 3:13 ~ Press On  If you want the song, they allow you to download it for free from their site at Time To Shine Music.

Have a great day and Press on In your addiction recovery.

Chorus: Press on, forgetting what lies behind I wanna lay hold of the upward call of God
Press On, Press On, Press On, Press On
Press on, forgetting what lies behind I wanna lay hold of the upward call of God
Press On, Press On, Press On, to Jesus Christ

A-Cee Verse: So low, I was going for the base things. God picked me up out of the dirt and showed me great things; Gospel of Christ the grace king, went from nothing to everything. I was singing His praises even though I can’t sing. Went from lifeless to being credited as righteous; now I write this, what I call a victory song. Coming so strong, spent so long living complacent; now the power I’m bringing is Jesus in my place man. Making haste man, don’t want to waste my life! I’m here for a minute and I’m a bring it for Christ! Livin’ it moment by moment and hoping in the atonement and even if they don’t want it I’m a spit it because He told me. Not the old me, this is the new me, the true me; made in His image, created fearfully truly. Set apart for a purpose, that’s higher than my self, it’s higher than my rights, it’s higher than my wealth; it’s the highest of highs, He lit a fire inside of me to bring praise to the glory of His grace in the Messiah. Steadily under attack by the liar but I’m packing heat; got crucifixion of Christ bearing my penalty. The resurrection of Christ, meaning death is defeated and the Word of God, by which Satan will be deleted; he’s no match for Christ in me see, when He’s coming on the clouds everything will be completed. Hallelujah! But until that day, while the sun is still shining, I’m a I’m a be making hay! God is shaping me into His image like a potter with clay and I’m hearing Him say “My grace is sufficient”. I’m needing Jesus Christ with nothing in addition. But one thing I do is keep my eyes off of the rear view, but I got em’ on the prize of the upward call of God; and press on, I press on!

Sound Doctrine Verse: We pressing higher Messiah and now our spirits on fire/we living zealous and we jealous cuz he bled and he died uh/for the depraved in the grave living hopeless in shame/now we reaping and stepping for the knowledge of Jesus name/all to know Him, we counting it loss to daily show em/cuz yo we are the light of the world, we tryna glow em/ a fire in our bones/ Jeremiah, yeah you know/cant keep it inside, cuz our minds about to blow/so, we pressing pressing steady watching what we repping/and our boast in Christ, and its salvation that we getting/what’s the mark of the high call/yo it’s the glory of Christ shining bright when all the lights off/there aint nothing that is higher man/pressing for anything else will leave you living in the fire man/Ya little accolades and ya fame/we gotta lay them aside and live for the Name, ya heard/we wanna know Him both in power and suffering/its only by grace and thru faith that He is coming in/this is a race, better yet this a marathon/engine revving, room room, like a cheveron/ I mean a chevy yo, the matters heavy yo/we went from death to life and now we pressing for/the high call, going up but we stoop low/cuz its humility that we is truly suited fo’/ya know, we want the likeness of Christ/yall can have the low things like the likeness of Mike/we was made in His image, now im saved and envision/seeing face to face that He is risen yeah/im pressing on just to walk as he walked man/1 John 1:7 is a mark man/of my new life, and that I’m one of His/and I’ll steady be pressing until im getting Him

Singing to the Lord (even with this bad voice)

I will sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. Psalm 104:33

Have you wondered why Monday's are "Musical Mondays" here on the recoveryBox Devotional blog? It's because there are so many ways for us to praise our God using scripture. I include the lyrics on purpose. When we read something it stays with us in a way that hearing something doesn't. We all learn in different ways.

The music I include isn't just feel good music. It's praise music that almost always has scripture in it. Yes, when you listen to such uplifting music you may not have even known that you were listening to the Bible.

King David penned many of the Psalms. They are not just poems..but many of them are beautiful songs. King David was a musician and was able to express his praise to God through music...and I myself having been a music major in college I know how much music and tones and sounds can pull at your emotions and desires.

And so when the enemy is starting to attack you and you just need to hear good messages, turn on some praise and worship music and tell Satan to take a hike! Nothing is impossible for the Lord.

Musical Devotionals - Matthew West's Story of Your Life

I think this is just one of my favorite songs period. It's simply a question about what will you do with your life? Will you spend it lost in regret, or will you breathe deep and see that you have been given a second chance. I think anyone in recovery for an addiction will relate to this one. Enjoy!

"The Story Of Your Life" by Matthew West
Is this the end?
Or only the beginning?
The second chance
You never thought you'd get

The question is
Will you do something with it
Or spend your days
Lost in your regreat

This is the story of your life
You decide
How the rest is gonna read
This is your chance between the lines
To redefine what kind of legacy you leave
This is the story of your life
And it's a story worth telling

Breathe in deep
Feel your heart still breathing
Let's go see the reason you're alive
Oh, you are here
and love is up to something
So take your fear
and leave it all behind

This is the story of your life
You decide
How the rest is gonna read
This is your chance between the lines
To redefine what kind of legacy you leave
This is the story of your life
And it's a story worth telling

This is the joy
And it's the pain
And all the pages in between
Your finest hour
Your weakest moment
It where you've been
It's where you are
It's where you're going

This is the story of your life
You decide
How the rest is gonna read
This is your chance between the lines
To redefine the kind of legacy you leave
This is the story of your life
Go tell the story of your life
Cause it's a story worth telling
It's worth telling

Is this the end?
Or only the beginning?

Musical Devotionals - My Jesus by Todd Agnew

My Jesus by Todd Agnew
Which Jesus do you follow?
Which Jesus do you serve?
If Ephesians says to imitate Christ
Then why do you look so much like the world?

Cause my Jesus bled and died
He spent His time with thieves and liars
He loved the poor and accosted the arrogant
So which one do you want to be?

Blessed are the poor in spirit
Or do we pray to be blessed with the wealth of this land
Blessed are they that hunger and thirst for righteousness
Or do we ache for another taste of this world of shifting sand

Cause my Jesus bled and died for my sins
He spent His time with thieves and sluts and liars
He loved the poor and accosted the rich
So which one do you want to be?

Who is this that you follow
This picture of the American dream
If Jesus was here would you walk right by on the other side or fall down and worship at His holy feet

Pretty blue eyes and curly brown hair and a clear complexion
Is how you see Him as He dies for Your sins
But the Word says He was battered and scarred
Or did you miss that part
Sometimes I doubt we'd recognize Him

Cause my Jesus bled and died
He spent His time with thieves and the least of these
He loved the poor and accosted the comfortable
So which one do you want to be?

Cause my Jesus would never be accepted in my church
The blood and dirt on His feet would stain the carpet
But He reaches for the hurting and despised the proud
I think He'd prefer Beale St. to the stained glass crowd
And I know that He can hear me if I cry out loud

I want to be like my Jesus!
I want to be like my Jesus!

Not a posterchild for American prosperity, but like my Jesus
You see I'm tired of living for success and popularity
I want to be like my Jesus but I'm not sure what that means to be like You Jesus
Cause You said to live like You, love like You but then You died for me
Can I be like You Jesus?
I want to be like my Jesus
