Celebrate Good Times, Come On!

Yes, they shall sing of the ways of the Lord and joyfully celebrate His mighty acts, for great is the glory of the Lord. Psalm 138:5

I've written on the Importance of the Sobriety Anniversary on my blog for the recoveryBox app. If you missed that article, check it out here.

I can remember the first Celebrate Recovery meeting I attended. I was so scared and nervous because frankly I didn't know what to expect. But, during the time of sharing, someone came up and gave their testimony about their journey to recovery. And Yes, I was inspired!  After a few worship songs they gave out the sobriety anniversary chips. Having never attended a meeting before I was amazed that even small milestones like a week or two weeks were celebrated.

I love the verse above. Sing and joyfully celebrate His mighty acts. We know that we need help to overcome our addictions, hurts, hang-ups and habits. We know that we need God to work in our lives something we can't do on our own. And as I traveled my own journey I began to realize that the small milestones are just as important as the major ones. It's important to keep at the forefront of our minds that God is with us and helping us and making our paths of sobriety. Yes, we have to make our own choices. But could you or I make that choice if we didn't have Him in our lives?

And so just as we celebrate our kids birthdays, celebrate each milestone of your sobriety journey. I think these milestones are so important that I made them part of recoveryBox. Many will not understand the importance of these celebrations but please trust me when I say they ARE important.

So choose to celebrate how you feel best fits your life and situation. And do it with some singing praise making a joyful noise.
